Toyota
hybrid vehicle technology 50 percent cheaper in 3 years
Wednesday,
October 04, 2006
Toyota and Honda
are in a fight not just to make their hybrid
technology cheaper, but lighter. Toyota, for
example, plans to reduce the weight of its
hybrid powertrain by 50% in the next 3 years.
Additionally, Toyota hybrid technology adds on
average $4000.00 to the cost of a vehicle,
within 3 years Toyota plans to reduce this price
to $1900.00 according to AutoBlog.
One would assume that 50% lighter hybrid
vehicles would also result in more fuel
efficient vehicles, just in weight reduction
alone. When better batteries and software are
added to this equation, the outcome is
fantastic. In 3 years Toyota and Honda hybrids
will be more fuel efficient and significantly cheaper.
Now that's the kind of math I like.
